Amy Carman Design / Residential

Riverside Drive

A young family purchased this historic Tudor Home knowing an ambitious renovation was in their future. While much of the home’s original 1920’s-era features and charm were still in place, the kitchen and main living spaces were suffering from a series of awkward remodels that had taken place over the years. Amy Carman Design was enlisted to open up the space and create a modern, family-friendly kitchen with plenty of amenities for cooking and entertaining. The team’s first move was to rework the footprint of the kitchen, removing columns, adding new leaded glass windows, and creating generously scaled openings to the living room and pantry. Knowing the owners had adventurous taste in color, the design team chose a deep emerald green for the kitchen’s perimeter cabinets and adjoining pantry. A nearby storage closet was annexed to create an elegant pantry and wine room. The wet bar cabinetry, clad in brass, is surrounded by the foliage of a densly patterned wallcovering, giving the space a jewelbox feel. Inspired by the owners’ love of French design, the designers leaned heavily into a French aesthetic when furnishing the living and dining room, creating layered spaces that have the vibe of a chic Parisian apartment.
