As fourth-generation candy ingredients manufacturers, with a candy factory located in Riverwest, the Burke family was looking to open its first stand-alone retail store to feature their signature line of chocolates. Amy Carman Design was hired to create a one-of-a-kind retail space to showcase their signature gold-wrapped confections and establish a new branded identity for the Burkes. After getting to know founder, Julia Burke, and her love of gardens and the color green, the store’s signature color palette was born. Verdant, glossy green cabinets run throughout the store. A series of arched pass-throughs and niches were introduced to add architectural charm to the space. One of the more creative touches is the grosgrain ribbon trim outlining the walls, a nod to the ribbon that wraps every box of Burke chocolates. A lush, green wallpaper with hidden brass keys is the backdrop of the store’s “social space”, the area where staff can hold chocolate tastings and meet with corporate and event clients to discuss custom orders. The candy kitchen at the back of the store is a nod to the Burke’s candy factory, where guests can see chocolates being made and packaged.
