Belfre Kitchen

In its previous life, this 120-year-old white clapboard church in the heart of downtown Delafield might have been easy to miss – set upon a small hill and partially hidden behind large trees, one could drive past without notice. When a new owner recognized its potential as a new restaurant, Belfre Kitchen was born. Amy Carman Design was tasked with revamping the interior and exterior, creating a one-of-a-kind dining experience that reflects the simplicity and sweetness of the original wooden church, while infusing it with a decidedly city attitude. A palette of inky blue millwork, bright white walls, hammered brass, white Carrara, and black-and-white bistro chairs mix with simple wainscoting, plaster walls, and original pine flooring. Brass star lights dot the ceiling like jewelry. The former choir loft is now an intimate dining space featuring a brass organ pipe wall, paying tribute to the space’s musical roots. A new wooden picket rail with a repeating circle motif frames the stair and balcony and encompasses the outdoor patio. A new, generously-scaled outdoor patio extends fully from the building to the sidewalk, drawing patrons in, and providing space for outdoor dining, lounging, and live music during the summer months.
