Beerline Rowhouse

Our long-time clients have gradually reworked nearly every space in their modern urban condo, from the fourth-floor perch overlooking the Milwaukee River to their modern and beautifully-appointed kitchen. Restraint and careful editing were key to designing each space, keeping the materials and interior elements limited to few simple ingredients. The original kitchen felt dark and compressed compared to the bright airness of the rest of the townhouse. Upper cabinets were eliminated, opening the space visually, making it feel lighter and more connected to the neighboring two-story room. The half wall, which shelters the sink area, is made of large-format tile with the gentel texture of burnished plaster. The leathered quartzite countertops and backsplah, shitewashed rift-sawn white oak, stone half-wall, and oak shelves all have the matte finishes and subtle texture, giving the space a quiet, harmonious feel.
